I've been mistreated by Volvo Trucks!!!

On 5/05/05, at 54,700 miles, I returned to Portland, OR. I called the service department on Monday, 05/02/05, to let them know I was coming. I went to the new truck sales manager and gave him a list of what was wrong. He told me back when there was a screw up on the paperwork if I ever needed anything to let him know. I told him I needed his help and that I had over 5 years of un resolved problems. I asked him to please get invovled and make me an happy customer. I gave him a list, the list was as follows: heated seats not working, wabasto heater not working, curise control not always working, the fuel mileage is still bad, and I still don't have a copy of the paperwork. He was supposed to tell the service department about the air hose that I repaired, and gather up the paperwork that was never sent, I went to a motel. I returned on 05/06/05 at 2:45 P.M. I talked to a technican in the shop who told me about an exhaust leak under the hood , and I should have it fixed. I said the warranty should cover it. I also talked to service writer and asked what had been done about the cruise and the fuel mileage. He informed that there was nothing they could do because Volvo would not pay for them to get in and dig around to find the problem, a "FISHING EXPEDITION" he called it. The computer would not show a fault code and that was it. I also noticed that the air line going to the trailer was still not replaced. It is now 4;45 p.m. and I am leaving . I stop by to see the new truck sales manager to pick up my paperwork. At this point he decides to tell someone to pull my file and make copies. She returned a short time later and said the accounting dept. was locked up . It would be Monday before they could do it. When the new truck manager needed me to sign the new paperwork to get his butt out of a jam he sure talked big. But when it came down to what I needed he wouldn't help me, or maybe he just forgot. I asked the woman from the finance department, to please send me my paperwork. I bought this truck on 01/28/05, TEC Equipment mailed it out on 05/09/05. It only took 4 trys.

Current repair conditions are as follows: heated electric seats worked for first 3 days only (and have not worked since, the wabasto heater hasn't worked since March, and the exhaust leak under the hood, I repaired myself.

On 06/14/05, I called customer support at Volvo's Corp. office in Greensboro, NC. I wanted to set up a meeting for Friday 06/17/05 at 9: A.M. I spent 2 hours going over everything with a Senior Customer Advocate. I was going on vacation on 06/20/05 thru 06/28/05. She assured me she would have her "game plan" together to get my truck repaired on 06/29/05. On 06/29/05, I called and left 2 messages for this person. I received a call from this person after lunch, and now she wants me to fax her a list of what I want done. She then asked if I cared where the work was done. She recommended Atlanta, GA. told her that was not a problem, and that I could be there in 5 hours. She then tells me she will get in touch with the district manager and have him call me to set up an appointment. I did fax her my request, but I haven't heard from anyone on this.

On 07/25/05, Almost 1 month has passed and I am back in Portland, OR at TEC Euip. because my a/c is not working and eastern Oregon is over 100 degrees. I called customer support and talked to this woman again. I asked her why I haven't heard from anyone. She said she was waiting to hear from me and that we must of had some misunderstanding. This is an absolute lie. There was no misunderstanding. I was at the dealer (TEC Equip) all day on Monday, 07/25/05, and until after lunch on Tuesday, 07/26/05. I asked them to reapir the a/c and focus on the cruise control and fuel mileage problem. The a/c so far seems to be better than it has ever been. Volvo finally authorized the dealer to download some new software into the computer. This repair not only didn't help the fuel mileage, but now the truck runs much worse.

On Wednesday, 07/27/05, I called customer support in Greensboro again. I spoke to her again, and told her that I was on my way back to Alabama, and that the truck was worse than before and that the cruise control still did not work. She told me she had an engine expert in the office and that she would get on it. I said no misunderstandings now, I am waiting on your call. She assured me that she would call me later that day of the next morning. As I write this, it is Sunday 08/21/05, and I still have not received a call from her.

As you can see, I have had this truck for just over 6 months and it has been nothing but trouble. The fuel mileage situation is just horrible. Instead of throwing miles per gallon at you, let me demonstrate what I am complaining about in dollars. I am spending about $1,200.00 more per month on fuel. That's not total, that is in addition to what I was already spending. That is approximately 25% of my income or about $14,000 per year more or $70,000 more in fuel for 5 years. (if I keep this truck as long as I did the last) Would it hurt you to loose 1 paycheck per month or about 25% of your income? That is what this equals.

The cruise control situation, well that is a totally different story. I have a deformed right leg and although I live a fairly normal life, I do have certain physical limitations. My left leg is 1 3/4" shorter than my right leg. My gate is somewhat impaired, but I manage. When the cruise control does not work, it is a problem for me, because I have to put my leg in a position that becomes painful after a while. Most people it would not bother to use the gas pedal for an hour or more, but for me it is a problem. TEC Equip. and Volvo's customer service in Greensboro, NC is aware of this fact, and don't seem to care.

So whether it is a seat that doesn't work, or recalls that are not performed right, (i.e. alignments)or repairs that were made over and over again, or parts that you paid extra for and they don't work, no matter how small or large, there is no excuse for having to pay for something that is not right. Volvo has problems that they have no problem ignoring, at least that's my case. But when they won't help a physically challenged person who just wants to make a living, that's just cold blooded! Please learn from my mistake!!! AND BEWARE OF VOLVO.
